The research I am currently conducting with Barry Sinervo at UC Santa Cruz uses complementary approaches (lab and field-based studies, under natural and experimental conditions) to allow direct measurements of the interactions between genotype, phenotype, physiological performance, and Darwinian fitness.

Our research is focused on behavioral and physiological ecology. For example, we have described a biological example of a cyclical "rock-paper-scissors" game that is being "played" out among three color morphs of male side-blotched lizards in the Coast Range of California.
